Broker Check

Explanation of Fees

Over the years there has been a lot of information put out about fees, some accurate and some perhaps less so.  I have watched people make decisions based on what they believe to be a ‘fair comparison’ when in actuality you may not know the whole story.

The real discriminator is the client experience!  What ‘risk management’ tools are being deployed as most disciplines are designed to afford the investor a more consistent and predictable behavior to their investments.  That said, according to the 2017 Planning Profession Fee Survey, general fee estimates are:

  • Under $250,000:  Median is 1.85% (note that max is 2.4% for small portfolios)
  • $250,000-$500,000:  Median is 1.75%
  • $500,000-$1 M:  Median is 1.65%
  • $1M-$2M:  Median is 1.5%
  • $2M-$3M:  Median is 1.4%
  • $3M-$5M:  Median is 1.3%
  • $5M-$10M:  Median is 1.2%

**Average Brokerage Representative:  Median is 2.27%                                                                                                                                                              **Average Dually Registered Representative (Sears Group):  Median is 1.7%

As part of my commitment, I feel that all investors should be educated on the options so that they may make the best decision for themselves and their families, if so applies.

In conclusion, the ultimate value is truly not what you pay, but what you get!
